Shades of Grey at A Good Space

Description

** Upon registration, you'll be prompted to take a pre-event selection survey. We will notify you if you are selected to for the event. Thank you! **

As this social experiment aims to bring people with diverse views together, you are required to answer this survey (no more than 5min) to help us in our selection.

Do note that for specific intent of diversity, choices for each question are polarised by design.

Are issues black and white, or are there different shades of grey?

Can we really have a dialogue over issues that may not have a definitive answer?

The “Why”

In Singapore , we have the public discourse between the whites and the pinks, the haves and the have-nots, locals and migrant workers... Around the world, we have the Leave or Remain in Brexit, the marriage inequality postal vote in Australia, anti-Islamic rhetorics… The list goes on…

The algorithms of social media platforms may have further entrenched us into our echo chambers. It is now almost a cliche to say that we are living in an increasingly polarised world.

This challenge has no textbook solutions. We know that we don't know. What is intuitive, however, is we know must create more and safer spaces for conversations to confront the true complexity of reality - to build bridging capital.

Shades of Grey is a social experiment that aims to bring together people with deeply diverse views to find common grounds within a safe and facilitated context.

The “How”

20 participants will be selected from respondents with diverse views to a pre-event survey on various divisive issues e.g abortion, LGBTQ, death penalty, censorship etc. They will go through a 2-part workshop series:

Part 1 (28th October 2017, 3pm - 6pm) - to build connections amongst participants, review objectives of experiment and understand their views and degree of diversity.

Part 2 (11th November 2017, 3pm - 6pm) - to build common grounds amongst participants through an experiential activity and observe the change in the way they dialogue, if any.

Join us!

We have no idea where this experiment will lead us, but we know if we don't take a step forward, we will always remain in the same place.

If you are keen to join Shades of Grey, please register and complete the pre-event selection survey during the registration process.
